Join us on a one-of-a-kind art adventure exploring the stunning landscape of Queenstown. Hidden up in the Remarkable mountains, high in the valley, is lake Alta. Famous for its crystal green alpine water and as one of the major scene locations from Lord of the rings. We take you on ,an adventure to discover the quiet beauty of this Alpine landscape. One of the best kept secrets of Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand, immerse yourself in the serene beauty.

Known for it’s incredible reflections — spend a day sketching and painting with your own personal tutor and guide by your side.

All your painting materials are provided for this full-day tour, including a 1 hr hike up through the Remarkables skifield area from the base building and across fresh streams along the trail to find the unique beauty and colours of Lake Alta.

This full day tour is a treat for the senses and inspiration for your creative soul. Throughout the day, we honour the Tiaki Promise—a commitment to care for the land we explore by treading lightly, leaving no trace, and using sustainable practices such as collecting our water and bringing it back with us, and serving our picnic using reusable utensils.

Your guide and artist Raquel Carter, an experienced tutor, will take you on a guided journey embracing the art of Alpine plein air painting, out in the open air.

A fully guided personal art experience outdoors, we bring our lightweight 1kg easels and Painting materials with us, sketching and discussing the landscape in colour and form, observing the details, and discovering a deeper connection to nature through sketching and painting in watercolours, no experience necessary.

There’s plenty of opportunity for photography—so don’t forget your camera! This tour is suitable for all creative levels and does require a medium level of fitness to hike uphill for an hour.

We will have morning tea on the mountain and set up for a Plein air painting session. Here, your tutor will provide personalised guidance to help you begin your own creations, regardless of your previous experience. With a few simple tips and techniques, you’ll be able to produce a piece of art on the day and feel confident continuing your creative journey afterwards.

Along with a picnic lunch and refreshments provided on location with stunning mountain views. An incredible day out—filled with artistic discovery, natural beauty, and connection to the land.
